LAW IN TRANSLATION
Our second conference took place on November 23rd, 2019 at the Toronto City Hall with over 150 high school students in attendance.
The theme of our conference was Immigration Law.
This year we had a diverse group of speakers present at our conference. The speakers had various levels of experience in the field of law. They provided valuable insight into the industry and drew on their personal experiences.
The panel was followed by a Q&A session.
Maureen Silcoff graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1986. She is a partner at Silcoff Shacter and has been in private practice as an immigration and refugee lawyer since 1988, spending 5 years as a Member of the Immigration and Refugee Board. Maureen is the President of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers. She has taught refugee law at UBC’s Extended Learning program and is a regular contributor to the Lawyers’ Daily. She was involved in test case litigation regarding refugee health care and designated countries of origin and has co-chaired several access to justice campaigns for legal aid funding. Maureen speaks regularly at conferences and community events.
