Our first conference took place on December 1st, 2018 at the Toronto City Hall.
The theme of our conference was International Law.
SPEAKERS


Sohaib Ahmed is the Co-Founder and COO of 99point9, a standardized test preparation company, where they teach the MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, and GRE. Not only is Mr. Ahmed an entrepreneur, but he is also a phenomenal researcher. Currently, he is researching the backlog of cases in the court system as part of the International Research Group on Rule of Law and Fight Against Corruption, and in 2017, Mr. Ahmed was the Compliance Director and Field Team Leader at the G7 Research Group at the G7 Summit in Taormina, Italy.

Gina Alexandris is our keynote speaker today and is the Senior Program Director of Ryerson’s Law Practice Program. Ms. Alexandris is responsible for the development and implementation of the program as well as contacting contributing members of the legal profession. Among many other achievements, Ms. Alexandris has also conceptualized and initiated the award-winning Internationally Trained Lawyers Program at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law.

Zack Goldford is the 6th Vice President and Organization Chair of the Ontario PC Party and still manages to be at the top of his class in York University’s Law and Society program. Mr. Goldford has a long-standing involvement with politics, such as being the Senior Special Assistant for the Office of MP Bob Saroya this year and being the President of the Ontario PC Youth Association for the past 7 years.

Mitzie Hunter is the current member of provincial parliament (MPP) for Scarborough-Guildwood and recently served as the Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development. Before beginning her career in politics, Ms. Hunter was the former CEO of the Greater Toronto Civic Action Alliance, more commonly known as CivicAction. There, Ms. Hunter led the creation and implementation of practical solutions to the most urgent issues citizens face in the GTA and Hamilton.

Athavarn is currently completing his Bachelor’s of Social Science in Sociology with a minor in Law at the University of Ottawa as a McCall MacBain Loran Scholar. He currently works at the Refugee Hub as a communications associate and as a teaching assistant at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. Athavarn serves as a project manager for a Washington, DC-based human rights organization called PEARL, which advocates for justice for the Tamil people. Athavarn has volunteered with Amnesty International Canada for the past 6 years and now serves as a director on the National Board of Directors.

Before becoming a teacher, Mischa Levine was the Supervising Counsel for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer for 12 years. After making a major career change, Mr. Levine is now a high school teacher at RH King Academy where he teaches grade 11 and 12 law and runs multiple mock trials as part of the course.

Devin Persaud is a lawyer at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. He practices in corporate/commercial, competition, and foreign investment law. Devin obtained his law degree from the University of Ottawa, where he was also a founding member of the University of Ottawa’s Business Law Clinic, and an executive of the Law Student Society. Devin also serves on the Board and is an executive of the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto.

From impaired driving to homicide, David Shulman is a practicing criminal defence attorney with experience defending both typical and intricate criminal cases. Mr. Shulman has dealt with all levels of the court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, Canada’s highest court. He also was a mock trial coach for RH King Academy and helped them to win third place.
