Individuals may submit any essays, previously written or otherwise. The theme of your essay can be from any of the following subjects:

  • Politics

  • Law

  • Social advocacy

  • International relations

  • Global development

  • History

Essay Submission Guidelines:

  • This competition is open to high school students only. 

    • Applicants are limited to submitting one essay. 

  • Your essay must be 1200 words or less, not including the citations,  bibliography, or title page.

  • The essay should be double-spaced, with 12pt Times New Roman font.

  • You can choose to cite in MLA, APA or Chicago format. However, your citation style must be consistent.

  • To submit your essay, email a pdf or .docx file to with "First Name, Last Name - Essay Contest" as the subject line.

    • Please include your name, school, grade, and email address within in the email. 


  • First place - $50 cash prize along with a feature on our website

  • Second place - feature on our website

  • Third place - feature on our website

Marking Rubric:

  • Introduction & Thesis - 10 points

    • A clear & argumentative thesis​

    • Outlines what the essay will cover

  • Organization of Ideas - 10 points

    • Persuasive and clear argument(s)​

    • Sufficient evidence to support the essay's claims

  • Conclusion - 5 points

    • Restates the key points of the essay

    • Recommendations or suggestions on the topic

  • Writing Mechanics - 10 points

    • Grammar & spelling

    • Proper citations

    • Overall flow of the entire paper
